5 tips to source from China supplier

5 tips to source from China supplier

If you import product from China, there are five basic steps you should be taking to maximize your chance of receiving the right products at the right quality. A shipment of defective or dangerous products can almost never be returned to China and your supplier is not likely to re-do your products for “free” either. Taking these five steps will save you time and money.
1. Find a Suitable Supplier.
Many importers find a nice sample at a trade show, get a good quotation from the company believed to have manufactured the sample and then think their supplier search has ended. It is very risky to choose your supplier in this way. Online directories (e.g.Alibaba) and trade shows are only a starting point. Suppliers pay to be listed or to exhibit, and they are not rigorously screened.
If your contact claims to own a factory, you can run a background check on his company to confirm this claim. Then you should go and see the factory or order a capacity audit (around USD$1,000). Try to get some customer references and call them. Make sure the factory is familiar with your market’s regulatory standards.
If your orders are small, it is usually best to avoid very large manufacturers because they will probably quote high prices and not care about your orders. However, smaller factories usually need closer monitoring, especially on the first production run. Be forewarned: showing a nice factory and then subcontracting production to a smaller workshop is very common and the source of many quality problems. Your contract with your supplier should prohibit subcontracting.
2. Clearly Define Your Expected Product.
Some buyers approve a pre-production sample and a pro forma invoice and then wire the deposit. This is not enough. What about your own country’s safety standards? What about your product’s labeling? Will the packaging be strong enough to protect your goods during freight? These are just some of the many things on which you and your supplier should reach written agreement before money changes hands.
I recently worked with an American importer who had told its Chinese supplier that “the quality standard should be the same as that of your other US customers.” Of course when this American importer started experiencing problems, the Chinese supplier replied by claiming that “our other US customers never complain about this, so it is not a problem.”
The key is to write your product expectations into a detailed specification sheet that leaves no room to interpretation. Your methods for measuring and testing these specifications, along with the tolerances, should also be included in this document. And your contract should set forth specific dollar penalties if the specifications are not met.
If you are developing a new product with a Chinese manufacturer, you should be sure to document the resulting product’s characteristics and production processes as you cannot count on your supplier to give you this information if you later choose to switch to another factory.
3. Negotiate Reasonable Payment Terms.
The most common payment method is T/T (Bank Transfer). The standard terms are a 30% deposit before the components are purchased with the remaining 70% to be paid after the supplier faxes the bill of lading to the importer. It can get a bit more complex if a mold or special tooling is necessary during development.
Those vendors who insist on more favorable terms are usually seeking to trap you. I recently worked with a buyer who was so confident he would receive a good product he paid the full price before production. Needless to say, delivery came late and there were quality problems. He had nothing to use to leverage appropriate corrective action.
Another popular method is to pay by irrevocable L/C (Letter of Credit). Most serious exporters accept an L/C if you specify reasonable terms. You can send the draft to your supplier for approval before the letter is formally “opened” by your bank. Bank fees are higher than when you pay via T/T, but you are much better protected. I advise using an L/C for new suppliers or for very large orders.
4. Control Your Product Quality in the Factory.
How do you make sure your supplier met your product specifications? By going to the factory yourself and monitoring for this or by appointing a third party inspection firm to manage this process for you (for most shipments, third party quality control companies charge less than USD$300).
The most common type of quality control is a final random inspection of a statistically valid sample. This statistically valid sample gives professional inspectors enough to quickly and cost effectively draw conclusions about an entire production run.
In some cases, quality control should also take place earlier so as to catch problems before all production is complete. In these cases, an inspection should take place either before the components are embedded in the final goods or when the first finished products just get off the lines. In these cases, some samples can be picked up and sent for lab testing.
To take full advantage of QC inspections you should first have defined the product spec sheet, (see section 2 above), which then becomes your inspector’s checklist. Second, your payments (see section 3 above) should be tied to quality approvals. If you pay by T/T, you should not wire wire the remainder of your payment until your product passes final inspection. If you pay by L/C, the documents required by your bank should include a certificate of quality control issued by your appointed QC firm.
5. Formalizing the Previous Steps
Most importers are not aware of two facts. First, it is possible for an importer to sue a Chinese supplier, but it only makes sense to do it in China — unless that supplier owns assets in another country. Second, your purchase orders will aid in your supplier’s defense; they almost certainly will not help you.
To minimize your risks, you should buy your product pursuant to an OEM agreement (preferably one that is in Chinese). This contract will decrease your chances of problems and give you greater leverage should a problem occur.
My last bit of advice is that you be sure to put this entire system in place before you start negotiating with potential suppliers. Doing this will let them know that you are a professional importer and they will respect you for this. They will be more likely to agree to your requests because they will know that you can easily find another supplier. Perhaps most importantly, it will be much more difficult and much less effective if you start scrambling to put this system in place after you have already placed your order.

3 steps to avoid B2B Scammer

Mistake #1: Believing you can purchase popular consumer electronics and other name-brand goods at unrealistically low prices. Scammers frequently use the emotions of their victims against them, hooking excitable buyers with too-good-to-be-true deals on mobile phones, computers, cameras and other branded products that, once ordered, never arrive (or **** goods are shipped instead).

Chinese scammers in particular have been known to claim that they can offer super-low prices on brand-name merchandise because these products are usually manufactured in China and they can get special deals. Not true. All genuine products sold through authorized resellers are subject to worldwide pricing restrictions. Don’t get tricked into thinking you can buy iPhones or other authentic branded products at deep discounts.

Mistake #2: Paying a stranger through Western Union M oney T ransfer, MoneyGram or a wire transfer to a personal b ank a ccount. Scammers love Western Union and similar international services because proof of identity is not required to collect the cash, and buyers have no recourse if merchandise is not delivered--your money is just gone, and so is the thief. Any business that insists upon being paid only through Western Union is very likely crooked. Transferring money to a personal b ank a ccount, not to a commercial b ank a ccount, is also risky.

Mistake #3: Assuming a seller you have never done business with before is reputable. Just because a company has a professional-looking website or has set up shop in an online marketplace like Alibaba.com doesn't automatically make them legitimate. It's just good business sense to conduct due diligence when dealing with an unfamiliar supplier. Conduct a Google search for signs of bad business behavior by your potential partner, ask for bank references, call overseas to have a live conversation, use a product inspection service like this one at Alibaba.com --these are just some of the recommended moves buyers can make when dealing with a stranger.

    • Jalan Kenanga (Pakaian)
    • Pasar Borong Selayang (Makanan)

Jangan lepaskan peluang!

Perancangan bisnes 2013 : Kecil Sederhana

Tapi pastikan ianya beretika.

Buat bisnes kitar semula minyak masak contohnya.

Bersambung....

China National Day

Hello folks

China celebrate few holidays that sometime effect business operation. For those who wish to visit China to buy from wholesaler need to bear in mind that every year from 1-5 October is the Chinese National Holiday.

Simply said the week of the respected holidays is celebrated by all Chinese by traveling back home to the village. Hence shops and plazas are mainly closed or otherwise operate at a very slow pace.

For travelers who wish to make their visa, must bear in mind that the Visa Service Centre in your country will be closed and the schedule of processing the China Visa might be amended.

Have fun folks...share your experience in the comment below. I am sure some of you even went to China during that time to source for product but to no avail return back upset :)

Alibaba Tips : Finding the right supplier

Nowadays many trader small or big buy directly from China's supplier via B2B website like Alibaba and Made-In-China. The process is not that hard but sometimes little bit tricky.

Finding the right supplier is the key for a successful trade between two parties. As we never see and meet the right supplier, its even harder to recognized which one is truthful and which one is the scammer.

Let us look at three main criterias of a good and trustful supplier

  • Solid Communication and Service. Often language and communication is a barrier. Majority of supplier in China can not communicate good English. This is a vital point for your decision to pick a supplier. Make sure supplier can understand very well any term and condition agreed during discussion
  • Pricing. Pricing is important to determine the final cost. Be aware of quality and quantity offered by the supplier. The lowest price can often indicate poor quality. Also lowest price sometimes offered only when you make bulk purchase (Read bulk >5000 pcs)
  • Flexibility. For a beginner low stock yet frequent order can help business grow. Ask your supplier if they can provide this flexibility as well as supply speed?
After a careful observation and selection base on these criteria, establish your business by placing an order according your market demand. In the era of where fast and well understanding market information, you have to make a good and sound decision

So how about you? I believe many of us have used the B2B service for a long time. Share your tips and tricks. As the wise man always said Guide others and you will be guided.Amen

How to : Find local supplier in China

How to Find a Supplier in China

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Suppose you come up with a product idea or think you have market channels for certain products, and you want to find a supplier in China because of the low product development cost and low production cost there. If you Google the product name or concept, you will find tons of China suppliers/manufacturers. However, you still think you have not got one, because you want to find a capable and reliable one that would satisfy your specific needs and have a strong desire to do business with you. Many people get frustrated because they have been communicating with suppliers in China for months, but fail to move forward. The reason, most likely, is that they did not find the suitable one at the beginning. To successfully find a suitable China supplier, you need a strategy. This strategy will consist of awareness, knowledge and a good amount of homework. Below are some practical steps to find a suitable Chinese supplier for you.

Electronic Factory in Shenzhen China

Steps

  1. Understand what you need. You need to first know what is available and have a way to categorize the information. Here are some categories to help you think about Chinese suppliers: manufacturer vs. 3rd-party supplier; Big corporation vs. small family-owned; 3rd-party supplier with in-house product development capability vs. 3rd-party supplier that just buys-in and sells-out; vertically integrated manufacturer vs. assembly-based manufacturer; etc. Properly categorizing the suppliers will help you understand what you need. For example, if you need to import products in a narrow range, you may choose a manufacturer other than a 3rd-party supplier. If you are a small business and need dedicated attention, you may want to develop a good relationship with a small family-owned business.
  2. Do some preliminary Internet research to further develop your category system towards your specific needs. Create a data table to help you record the search result, so the job can be done more efficiently and effectively. The table should include columns like company name, contact information, business scale and scope, category check boxes (important), and notes.
  3. Use search engines to search information related to your product name. The first 100 results would be the most relevant websites related to the product of your concern. You can also find your competitors' information and develop a better sense of market segment and marketing channels.
  4. Use popular business directory websites to obtain very structured information for Chinese suppliers. The directory websites are also excellent resource to obtain industrial knowledge.
  5. Narrow down the the list of suppliers you want to work with to a manageable amount. At this stage, you may already know what your real needs are and what is available. Initiate contact with the suppliers you want to work with, and further develop relationships with them. Eventually, you will find the one. The process can be fun and a friendly experience.

Air Asia only permit luggage weight of 30 kg and one hand luggage weight not more than 7 kg

Alibaba Tips : Buying from Alibaba.com

Nowadays many trader small or big buy directly from China's supplier via B2B website like Alibaba and Made-In-China. The process is not that hard but sometimes little bit tricky.

Many times happen that some of us just fall into prey into scammer and cheater that sell nothing except advertising things that does not exist at all.

Let me share my experience dealing with supplier in Alibaba.

The main question asked by many:
  1. How could we trust a supplier in Alibaba
  2. How to transfer money to the supplier in China. What measurement should I take?
Question # 1
How could we trust a supplier in Alibaba.
  • Deal only with Gold Supplier.
  • Cross check their profile with other B2B website
  • Get in touch with the supplier first via Trade Manager (A firefox extension that enable chatting between you and supplier in Alibaba). Have some sort of ice breaking chat with them
  • Before you place your order, ask for quotation. If you dont have shipping agent/warehouse in China, ask them to quote the shipping cost separately
  • Upon agreeing with the quotation, ask for the invoice

Question # 2

How to transfer money to supplier in China.  The best and safest way is to use telegraphic transfer (TT) via local major bank. What measurement should I take?
  •  Ask the supplier to give the final price in both RMB and USD
  • Ask the supplier to give their personal details (Full name and ID #)
  • Ask the supplier their bank details (Bank Address, SWIFT Code are compulsory)
  • Fill in the TT form. Ask the bank officer to help you
  • You will need to pay processing charge. So prepare extra money.
  • Wait 15 minutes. And done
  • Within 24 hours, check with the supplier if they have receive the money. Always keep your TT form copy with you for future reference.

So how about you? I believe many of us have used the B2B service for a long time. Share your tips and tricks. As the wiseman always said Guide others and you will be guided..Amen

    To Guangzhou via Hong Kong

Since January 2010, Air Asia has had promoted cheap ticket to Hong Kong. Many didn't know that, it is sometime cheaper to travel to Guangzhou via Hong Kong. Here I share three options that you can choose according to your time, budget and convenient

Option 1 ( Not so cheap but less hectic. Please allocate 4 hours time if you are into something)
Bus direct from Hong Kong Airport to Guangzhou. You can buy the ticket from the counter at terminal one inside the Hong Kong International Airport. It will cost you RMB 250. The journey will take you around 2 and half hour. But beware...it will take longer if the check point at the border is busy. For example during holidays and weekend. The bus from Hong Kong airport will stop at Huangang. There you need to pass the border. You need to board new bus after entering China Mainland.
    More information Click here

Hong Kong International Airport Bus Terminal
    Option 2 (Fast and reliable)
Buy train via Hung Hom Train Station. Take the airport shuttle number A21. You can take the bus at terminal 2 of the Hong Kong International Airport. Normally it will take 50 minutes for you to arrive at the Hung Hom Station. There buy the train ticket to Guangzhou East. It will cost you RMB 230. The travel time is approximately two and half hours.

Option 3 (Cheap but quite adventurous. Please allocate 4 hours time if you are into something)
First take airport bus shuttle number A43 to Sheng Shui Station. It will take you around 50 minutes to arrive there. There board the metro towards  Lo Wu. Lo Wu is located at the border between Hong Kong and China Mainland. From the station you have to walk around 10 minutes to cross the border. Immigration process will take normally 20 minutes. But during holidays and weekend, it could take more than that. You will enter China Mainland and arrive at Shenzhen Train Station. Buy a ticket to Guangzhou East. The journey long for only one hour. I have tried this during my 3rd visit to GZ. What I can say, you must have the guts to choose this option! All together will cost you only RMB 130. Cheap huh.....

    Guangzhou vs Yiwu
